How Does It Work?

  • Visit our Seed Library location: Goldsboro Library, 1001 E. Ash St. (A library card is not required to use the Seed Library.)

  • Review our selection of seeds in the binder at the Reference Desk.

  • Pick out up to 2 packets of seeds from our plant assortment (while supplies last).  Take only what you will use during this planting season.

  • Complete a Patron Seed Checkout Record by recording plant name, variety, year of harvest, and seed source.

  • Plant and Grow Your Seeds by following the instructions listed on the back of each seed packet.

  • Read up on gardening (if necessary) using the library’s resources.  Ask at the Reference Desk for help in locating these items.

  • Enjoy the fruits of your labor.

  • Harvest and Return Your Seeds – Returning seeds is recommended but is not a requirement of using the seed library.
  • If you want to return seeds, dry your seeds thoroughly and store in a cool, dark place until you return them to the Seed Library.

  • Return your seeds in a sealed paper envelope with your name, the plant name, variety, and year of harvest written on the envelope.
