Using online databases can be a very helpful place to start your family research. Our Local History Room has a desktop designated only for these resources. Consider scheduling an appointment with our local history staff to learn effective research skills and about all our available resources for patron use.

The world’s largest online family history resource provides researchers instant access to hundreds of years of history through historical documents that include the US Census, birth, marriage, death, immigration, passenger lists, land deeds, wills, and other collections. Free downloadable charts and forms to help you organize research.

Powered by Ancestry.com, Heritage Quest gives library patrons access to additional genealogy collections for research.

This database is a robust collection of military records from the Revolutionary War to recent wars. Library patrons can create their own “Honor Wall” to commemorate relatives or people in the community who served in the US military through stories, photos, and documents.
Historic North Carolina Digital Newspaper Collection (1751 – 1999)
This database contains digitized historical newspaper content from over 1,000 North Carolina county newspapers.
