Computers, Printing, and WiFi
Library Desktop Computers
When you log in to a computer with your library card barcode and PIN, the computer keeps track of time for you. You may use up to 1 hour per day (all at once, or in more than 1 session). An on-screen timer will help you keep track of your available time.
Anytime you are asked for your library card number, you must enter all 14 digits with no spaces. When you sign up for a library card, your PIN is automatically assigned as the last four digits of the telephone number you provide. Patrons may update their account information and PIN at the Reference Desk.
All Wayne County residents must obtain a WCPL library card to use a library computer. Non-residents may use an unexpired library card belonging to a library in our statewide reciprocal borrowing system (NC Cardinal) or may obtain a guest pass at any service desk using an unexpired government-issued photo ID showing their current out-of-county physical address to access the computers for one hour. Patrons without a photo ID may obtain a fifteen-minute guest pass. Guest passes are issued on an individual, daily basis.
Public computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Certain computers are able to be reserved a few hours in advance. Catalog-only computers for searching for library materials are available throughout the library. Library cards are not transferable; each patron must use their own library card to access the computer.
Read the Library’s Computer Policy (PDF).
Library Laptop Computers
Patrons may check out a laptop computer for in-library use at the Reference Desk using a library card and an unexpired government-issued photo ID showing their current physical address. The laptops do not have a time limit. Each laptop has a microphone and camera.
When you check out a laptop computer, your photo ID will be kept in a drawer at the Reference Desk and returned to you when you return the laptop computer.
If you need to print from a library laptop computer, please follow these steps.
Computer Printing & Photocopies
Black and white photocopies are 10¢ per page. The library has a coin-operated copy machine that takes nickels, dimes, and quarters.
Black and white computer prints are 10¢ per page. Color computer prints are 50¢ per page. Patrons send print jobs to the print queue, which is tied to their library card number or guest pass number. Patrons may pay for and release their print jobs by using the print pay station. The pay station takes nickels, dimes, quarters, one-dollar bills, and five-dollar bills, and holds up to five dollars at a time. Staff at the Reference Desk may release print jobs of more than $5.00 and handle all card transactions.

- Business cards 3.25% or $2.00 per transaction, whichever is greater
- American Express is not accepted
The library has a scanner available to save documents and/or photos onto a flash drive or to send to an email. There is no charge for scanning.
