Getting a WCPL Library Card
Why do I need one?
Library cards are required for checking out materials, using the library’s computers, or accessing our free digital libraries and tools.
Who is eligible for a free WCPL library card?
- Residents of Wayne County
- Owners of property in Wayne County
- Students and teachers in Wayne County
- Owners of existing companies or corporations licensed to operate in Wayne County
Persons who do not meet the qualifications listed above are eligible for a Wayne County Public Library card upon payment of a $15.00 non-refundable, non-resident fee. This fee is a yearly fee and entitles the holder to all benefits provided by the Library system. This card must be renewed yearly.
What should I bring to get a library card?
Registering patrons must provide:
- a government-issued, picture identification
- proof of current address (Proof of current address includes a driver’s license, personalized checkbooks, or bills mailed to current residences.)
You may register for a library card at any Wayne County Public Library location, and one card works at all branches.
New Library card holders may check out up to four items with their new card. On following visits, card holders may checkout up to 30 items. Access to digital resources begins immediately after a library card is activated.
Can my child have their own library card?
Yes! All children in Wayne County beginning at birth can get their own library card. For children ages 0-4, who get a “My First Library Card,” they will be eligible to check out 10 print items at a time. Once a child turns 5, they can get one of our regular library cards with all the borrowing privileges we offer, allowing them to check out up to 30 items per visit, including books, DVDs, ebooks, and other digital resources.
To get any library card, a child will need to visit the library with their parent/guardian, and the parent will need to present a photo ID and proof of their current address.
