FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GOLDSBORO, NC, November 10, 2021 –

On November 4th, the Wayne County Public Library (WCPL) hosted a lecture featuring Dr. Leonard Rogoff in partnership with the Wayne Community College Foundation, titled Down Home in Goldsboro: Jewish Life Across the Centuries. In his presentation, Dr. Rogoff delved into the Jewish experience in North Carolina—from the arrival of the earliest immigrants to the modern Goldsboro downtown.

The program, held in the Wayne Community College Moffatt Auditorium, drew 70 in-person attendees as well as virtual attendees from New York, Georgia, and a little bit of everywhere in-between.

Rebecca Vargha, who grew up in Wayne County and now works at UNC, attended the program virtually. “[The] program with Leonard Rogoff was a fascinating look at the history of the Jewish community in North Carolina and beyond.  We enjoyed listening to his lecture and congratulations to [the library] for a well-organized and thoughtful program.”

Laura E. Arney, who attended the virtual event live from Rochester, NY said, “I thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with my Southern roots. [The presentation] was a big part of my personal history. The whole history was one I remember and cherish. It brought back fond memories. Thank you for offering the program for the wider audience.”

Since the original recording, the program has been viewed over 100 times. The recorded lecture is available online at the following link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpeVWhwuq8M.
