Creative Aging Classes
Wayne County Public Library is offering professionally-taught, instructional workshops to the 55+ community. Spring classes are starting in March and will run through April. Descriptions and online registration forms are listed below. You must be 55 years or older to register.
Quilling
Learn to quilt a table runner, table topper, and/or mug rug from teaching artist, Cathy Blow. With a focus on American patchwork, she will teach participants nine patch patterns by hand- and machine-quilting and will instruct students on how to make a 9 patch disappear into another design. In addition to machine piecing something to quilt, instructions will include how to quilt in your lap with quilt-as-you-go block assembly. There will also be an old fashion floor frame for learning to quilt with a frame just like the old fashion quilting bee!

Instructor Deborah Balance, originally from Connecticut, relocated to North Carolina in 1990. “Since I can remember, I’ve always immersed myself in the world of art and creativity. I took a formal art class at Wilson Community College, and I’ve had the joy of teaching children how to paint in acrylics over the years. Just under two years ago, I discovered the art of quilling, and it has since become my passion. My hands have always been busy with different arts and crafts, and I’ve enjoyed exploring new techniques throughout my life.”
Line Dancing
In Motion Entertainment, LLC is so excited to offer a beginning class for those wanting to learn the basic steps of line dancing. You will learn popular routines you can use at social events, weddings and community gatherings in a laid back setting. No previous experience is necessary. Line dancing is a great form of exercise without a huge impact on your body. This class will also be a great way to socialize with others and hopefully, meet some new friends. Come and join us weekly for an hour and a half of FUN!
Dress in loose comfortable clothing. Short sleeves are normally most comfortable as it does get your body moving! Tennis shoes are preferred.

Instructor Megan Lynn Casey is an award-winning choreographer and performing artist from Goldsboro. Recently, Megan graduated from the University of Mount Olive with her Master of Business Administration. At the age of 19, Megan turned her passion into a career when she opened In Motion Entertainment, LLC. She loves to share her love of dance with all generations of dancers. Megan has received instruction with many inspiring performers including: Gleb Savchenko (Dancing with the Stars), Autumn Miller (professional dancer), Robert Taylor Jr. (Broadway cast member of SpongeBob the Musical), Parsons Dance Company (New York City), and many more.
Creative Memoirs
Discover the joy of storytelling in words and pictures in this seven-week series. Create an art journal with various media, such as colored pencils, paints, fabrics, wallpaper, or magazine pages, as well as written words, poems, and stories. Focus each week on a different theme utilizing writing prompts, photos, and/or coloring pages for inspiration. Illustrate your memories in pictures and stories and jump start your creativity!

REGISTER HERE for Creative Memoirs
Instructor Evelyn Wool is a self-taught artist, author, and farmer who raises dairy goats, cows, pigs, and chickens on the farm she started with her husband after moving to North Carolina from Connecticut in 2014. Evelyn writes, illustrates, and self-publishes children’s books in the series: Stories from The Wool Family Farm featuring her true adventures with the farm’s many curious animals.
Watercolor Basics
In this class, we will cover the supplies, brushstrokes, and techniques of watercolor. Each class will apply these principles and build upon the previous class. Color theory, color harmony, perspective, and textures will all be taught. Drawing skills are always a plus, but not necessary. At the end of the eight-week class, the students will have matted artworks to be displayed. All supplies will be included.

REGISTER HERE for Watercolor Basics
Instructor Jewel Sauls was born in Sanford, NC, and moved with her husband to his hometown of Goldsboro in 1988. Jewel has always loved to create. She is a seamstress, a milliner, an origami folder, a paper crafter, a doodler, and most recently, a watercolorist. She has helped renovate historic homes and built split rail fences for our local battlefield. She always wants to try something new. Painting and coloring with her four grandsons is her favorite pastime!
