Public library brings back “Food for Fines” Food Drive

In coordination with the Salvation Army

GOLDSBORO, NC, October 27, 2021- November 1st through November 31st, the Wayne County Public Library (WCPL) is bringing back their popular end of year program, “Food for Fines.” Patrons can donate non-perishable food items in exchange for fine forgiveness. Non-perishable food items are foods in boxes, bags, jars, or cans that may be shelved, and don’t require refrigeration or freezing. For each non-perishable food item donated, $1 in late fees will be cleared from their accounts up to $25, not including damaged or lost item fees.

“We are excited to bring back the Food for Fines food drive,” said Anna Snyder, Head of Reference, “Last year we collected a lot of food which we were able to donate to the Salvation Army. Many of our patrons love this drive too, as they can clear off late fees while benefitting the community. We also had plenty of patrons who used the program as an opportunity to educate their children about kindness even though their accounts had no balance.”

Drop-off food donations at any WCPL location:

  • Main Library: 1001 E. Ash Street, Goldsboro 27530
  • Pikeville Branch Library: 106 West Main St, Pikeville, 27863
  • Steele Memorial Branch Library: 119 West Main St, Mt Olive, NC 28365

Food collected via “Food for Fines” will be donated to the Salvation Army in Goldsboro for distribution to people in need.
