GOLDSBORO, NC, October 14, 2021 –

The Wayne County Public Library’s local history department has selected and begun training their first intern, Will Allen, for the Marty Tschetter Local History Internship. Will Allen is a senior at the University of Mount Olive majoring in History and minoring in English. He is from Oak Island, North Carolina, and lives in Mount Olive, North Carolina.

“I’m excited to learn more about the local history of Wayne County and the inner workings of a public history department,” says Allen.

Interested in a career in libraries or museums, Allen would like to gain skills that he can use to help build his professional resume and explore professional options. Allen is currently learning how to add content to the library’s digital exhibit software, Pass It Down. He is adding content to expand the Wayne County Memories exhibit, a community-curated exhibit that includes content from the library’s collections and stories from local community members. He also hopes to complete independent research for his senior internship course on the community of Everettsville and the lives of former residents such as Elizabeth Collier.

“This internship seeks to honor Marty Tschetter by passing down his passion for local history to a new generation,” says Kelsey Chandler, current Local History Reference Librarian.
