What is it?

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a reading challenge that encourages parents and children to read together.  This promotes early childhood literacy, and strengthens the bond between parent and child.  This challenge is brought to you by the Wayne County Public Library, hosted by the READ Wayne coalition, and funded by Friends of the Library at Wayne County Public Library.

Why Participate?

  • Grow Strong Readers: Reading daily fosters a lifelong love of learning.
  • Minutes a Day: Just 20 minutes of reading daily boosts your child’s vocabulary, language skills, and more.
  • Big Wins: Record books to earn badges and prizes!

How It Works:

  • Challenge Goal: Read 1000 books (or as many as you can!) before your child starts Kindergarten.
  • Eligibility: Open to all Wayne County parents with children under 5 years old.
  • Repeat Reads Count: Enjoy reading favorite books over and over again—it all adds up!
